Let's start with acne. If you have acne, the first thing I recommend would be to go to the dermatologist. I have been seeing a dermatologist since I was three! This is by far the most important step. The derm will give suggestions on the type of face wash to use as well as prescription treatment. Of course after going to the derm, your acne won't go away immediately. So in the meantime, you have to find the type of coverage you need. If you can, I would recommend just covering the spots with concealer; but some people have worse ace than that. (I know I occasionally get really bad acne!) In this case, I would use a foundation, preferably high end. I've never found a drugstore face makeup I like; in my opinion, I have yet to find one with good coverage and ingredients. If you have a favorite brand, I would go to their counter and test out different foundations and coverages. The brands I would recommend are, Tarte, Bobbi Brown, and Gorgio Armani. To apply foundation onto acne covered skin, use a makeup brush for hygienic purposes. Smaller tightly packed bristles will give a heavier coverage, and they are best for acne prone skin. To make sure your coverage lasts all day, use a setting powder and setting spray.

Now moving on to covering up blemishes. Only having blemishes means you have small/big spots in a couple areas (rather than all over). With single blemishes I would try to spot conceal or cover them with a light coverage BB cream or timed moisturizer. There is no reason for a foundation if you do not need it. The brand for concealer I would recommend is Nars, and for BB cream, Bobbi Brown. To apply the BB cream use your fingers or a standard foundation brush. If you really want to sheer out the coverage use a brush with very long bristles that is more fluffy. To apply concealer, use a very small bush and pat the product on. Rubbing the product will make it disappear. Lightly blend out the edges of the concealer around the spot. Finish with a dusting of loose powder.
