Basic Makeup Knowledge

Hey everyone! So sorry I've been absent for a while; I've been very busy. Today I thought I would share some basic makeup knowledge that everyone doing makeup should know.

1. Always test foundation colors on your jaw line
You will get the best match if you test the product on your jaw line

2. Always start blending foundation at the center of your face
Blending should go inside to outside when working on your face.

3. There are many ways to blend
You can stipple, buff, smooth, pat/dap etc. All are used for different types of foundations or looks. I can go deeper into blending in another post if that interests you all.

4. Don't just apply blush to your apples of your checks
Always sweep the blush back towards your hair line to give a natural blushing effect

5. Bronzing and contouring are not the same
Where bronzing might give some deffiniton, the main purpose is to give you a sun kissed look. Contouring is solely for defining the features on your face.

6. Concealer should go in a upside down triangle under your eyes
This will provide the most brightening to your face and will also make the foundation and concealer blend nicely together.

7. The basic eye look consist of 4 steps
A base color, a lid color, a crease color, and an eyeliner

8. They're many different types of eyeshadows
Powders, creams, gels, sticks, pigments, pressed pigments, glitters, foiled. All of these give different looks and dimensions to your eyes.

9. Eyeliner should not be so thick you can't see your lid
For people who have little lid space, stay away from thick eyeliner; it will make your eyes look smaller. Instead opt for eyeliner in your tight line. This will give the look of eyeliner without shrinking your eyes. (A tight line is the strip of skin under your eyelashes.)

10. Finishing products can change your look
They will keep your makeup in place all day. A powder will keep your face matte and oil free. A spray will take away that heavy makeup look.

Hopefully you liked hearing some basic makeup knowledge. I'm sure many of you knew these, but its always helpful for those who don't!

Review: Viseart Concealer Palette

I recently ordered the Viseart corrector camouflage palette. This is a high end Parisian brand that is pretty pricey. I wanted to try this to see if it was worth the price and lived up to the hype. This comes with many different colors  (green, reddish  pinkish, darker colors and lighter colors for all skin tones). They recommend using the darker colors as contour and mixing other colors to create the perfect color for you. It can also be used for highlighting and neutralizing.

I was very excited about all the many uses of this palette and tested all of them. When using the green (for redness) and the red (for purple under the eyes), it did a great job at covering imperfections but was almost impossible to cover with the skin toned concealer. It smeared and mixed in with the color I put on top. The darker colors for contour were much too orange for realistic definition. I do think having the mix of tones is great for creating a custom color though. Now for the consistancy of the concealer; it is very build-able and sets without creasing. It does settle in fine lines (but really i have never tried a concealer that doesn't). It is creamy enough to blend and smooth, but it isn't too creamy where it looks oily. When it sets it doesn't budge and doesn't need a setting powder. I was very impressed with the skin tone concealers!

On my second try with this product I used the red under my eyes, then a very light shade packed on top of it, and finally the correct shade for me on top of the light one. This eventually did cover the red, which did a great job at concealing my dark circles. The only problem I had with it this time is that it caked very easily. You could tell I was wearing a lot of concealer.

I always have a hard time with concealers so I was really happy to find this. It is the best consistancy and coverage I have ever tried. Saying that, I also think the rest of the concealers in the palette are not worth it. For how much it is, I wish all the concealers were amazing.
