New Trend: Color Correcting

You might of heard of the new craze, color correcting.  Today I'll share with you some basics to keep up with the trend!

Definiton: using colored products (powders, primers, concealers etc) to correct imperfections on your face.

Green- covers red and hyper-pigmentation
Purple- covers yellow undertones and dullness (you usually see this with primers and powders to help your whole face)
salmon/peach- under eye circles and dark spots
red- covers blue veins and bruises (and intense under eye circles)
yellow- covers subtle redness (and brightens)

read more here - has some great products as well

To test out color correcting, I wanted to try out inexpensive products to see if you really want to splurge on the pricy items.

Sephora had a great line of their own for color correcting- but seeing that the trend is so popular I could only get my hands on a yellow and green concealer! Which is exactly what I needed seeing that I have a lot of redness and need for brightening! Here's what I found:

Sephora bright future color correcting concealer in Green and Yellow: I applied the yellow in the corner of my eyes, on the top of my cheek bones, and on my forehead. I put the green on any blemishes I had, around my nose, and on the top of my cheeks (where I have red discoloration). I blended all of this in with my beauty blender, and immediately I saw the result the green had. All of the redness on my cheeks was gone! The yellow helped with the purple veins but didn't brighten under my eyes. You could say it brightened my forehead but that is really only because it's a bright color which you could accomplish with a light colored foundation. Then to cover the colors, I put a Sephora brand concealer on top. You didn't have to use a lot of product to cover the colors, but you definitely couldn't skimp on it. After blending this I noticed my face was exactly one color; everything was so balanced and even. The colors did accomplish the goal of covering other colors but didn't exactly have the added benefits of brightening. A negative to this process is since you are layering products it is a very heavy makeup look. You can definitely tell you are wearing a lot of makeup!

I hope you enjoyed seeing a look at this new trend! If anyone is interested in the other colors I would love to test them out!

Spring Break Beauty Necessities

For those of you going on spring break, I thought I would share some of my necessities for a great vacation!

1. Sunscreen! This is the most important item whether you're going somewhere cold or hot, the sun is still out! Having a sun burn on vacation sucks, so stay protected! I love wearing sunscreen with some coverage for the days I'm not doing something active (like a BB cream). If your swimming or working out, a regular sunscreen is best so the makeup doesn't clog you're pours.

2. Multipurpose Products! The last thing you want is to spend time on your makeup while on vacation. By brining a tint for your lips and cheeks and a bronzer for your face and eyes will save you so much time. Also, using the same products on your face gives you a more natural look.

3. Bronzer! If you are going somewhere to get tan it is crucial to bring something to darken your face to match your body. Rather than a contour, put the bronzer on the high points of your face (that would be your forehead, cheeks and chin).  Of course, always bring the bronzer onto your neck to balance everything.

4. Moisturizer! Traveling in general puts strain onto your face. Its always a good idea to have a replenishing moisturizer to save your skin for the rest of the trip. (to enhance the glow of moisturized foundation pack a highlighter for even more radiant skin)

5. Colorful and Exciting Products! A trip is a great time to experiment with eye looks, considering you're not at home! I love to bring colorful eyeliners and mascaras to try in a tropical setting, and a dark lip color in a cold setting!

Hopefully everyone has a good spring break!
