Smokey Eye 101

Smokey eyes are a hard technique to get down. What some people don't know is that there are different types of smokey eye. I don't have a technical name for them, but there's a outer corner smokey eye, inner and outer corner smokey eye, and an all over smokey eye. Smokey eye take a lot of patience and blending. The main Idea to keep in mind about them is that you should always start from the lightest color to darkest (always use the black last and in small amounts).

First Smokey Eye:
This is the smokey eye most people know of. You start out with an eye base to keep the dark shadows from fading. Next, use a light neutral color, like cream. You can also add a pigment of a shimmer eyeshadow on top of that, concentrating on the inner corner and the center of the lid. To start the smokiness, use a soft brown in the crease of your eye to build definition. Slowly start adding a darker brown into the crease, not going too far into the inner crease. Be sure to focus the darker colors in a small v in the outer corner. After getting a little darker brown you can add any darker color you prefer, like black, maroon, or navy. Start with barely any product on your brush and focus on the outer corner of the eye. Always go back in with the light brown to soften anything that is too hard. The idea for this look is for it to go from light to dark starting in the inner corner.

Second Smokey Eye:
To get this look you will use the same techniques as the first one. The differences are that you add the darker colors into the inner corner (going just in line with your iris and also going in a small motion). To make this as precise as possible, use a small brush. To balance out the darkness you definitely need to add a shimmer or pigment to the center of the eye. This look should go from dark to light to dark.

Third Smokey Eye:
This smokey eye is the most intense look. You start out with a primer as well. The second step can be taken in two different directions. You can either put a black cream eyeshadow on your lid or start out with a cream color like the others. The black will give you the most smokey and dark look. If you do choose the cream eyeshadowbe sure to use a warm brown in the crease to make sure there are no harsh lines. Also set the black with a black eyeshadow. If you start with the eyeshadow, begin the smokey eye by adding some depth into your crease with a light brown. Then go in with a darker brown and put this all over your lid. This will take some time to build up the color and the patchy areas. After this be sure to again blend your crease. Next go into the darkest color you want. Same as the brown, take your time with this step. Be sure to end it with a warm brown in the crease to soften the look.

Have fun experimenting with these types of smokey eyes!

Fast Makeup Routine

On days where you're running late or just headed to run an errand, you don't really need makeup. If you still want to have something on, you can use minimal product to maximize your appearance. Picking the few products that enhance your face can be difficult. The products you choose to put on may be different than others. I personally use eyebrow powder, eyeliner, and bronzer. Your eyebrows frame your face, so filling in my sparse brows is essential for me. I also have thin eyelashes, so by using eyeliner I can make my lash line appear thicker. Bronzer is a great substitution for every other face product because is adds sun and shape to your face.

For eye products, focus on your favorite or least favorite feature. If you have long lashes choose mascara as one of your products, or if you have veins on your eyelid use an eye base product. For your face products, if you have no problem areas with your face I would suggest bronzer. Concealer is the easiest and fastest face product to use if you have blemishes. For things like hyper-pigmentation using a powder foundation is best.
